Terms of Service

These terms are a contract between you and Anees, the independent developer of glimpses. They explain what you can expect from glimpses while it is in beta, what we expect from you, and what happens if something goes wrong. We have kept them in plain English.

1. Agreement

By installing, signing in to, or using glimpses, you accept these Terms of Service. If you do not accept them, please do not use the service. If you are using glimpses on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you have authority to bind that organisation to these terms.

2. The service

glimpses is a private journal that runs on the web, on your phone as a progressive web app, and as a native app on supported desktops. Your entries, photos, and related data are stored inside a folder in your own Dropbox account. We do not host a copy on a server we control. Sync happens directly between your devices and Dropbox.

glimpses is currently in beta. That means the core product is usable, but some details may still change as we improve reliability, device support, and the overall experience.

Because Dropbox is essential to the service, you will also be bound by the Dropbox Terms of Service in your relationship with Dropbox.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least sixteen years old to use glimpses, or at least the minimum age required to consent to processing of personal data in your jurisdiction, whichever is higher. By using the service, you confirm that you meet that requirement.

4. Your account

glimpses signs you in through Dropbox using OAuth. We do not store a separate password for you. Keep your Dropbox account secure: anyone who can sign in to your Dropbox can read your journal. We recommend enabling two-step verification on Dropbox and turning on the App Lock setting in glimpses for an extra layer of protection on shared devices.

You may revoke our access to your Dropbox at any time from the Dropbox security page. Doing so will stop sync immediately.

5. Free trial

New users receive a free trial of seven (7) days from first sign-in. No card or payment method is required to start the trial. During the trial, all features of glimpses are available. At the end of the trial you may either buy a lifetime licence, or continue to read what you have written without adding new entries until you choose to buy.

6. Lifetime purchase

After the trial, you can buy a lifetime licence for glimpses through Stripe. The lifetime licence is a one-time payment. There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and no pro tier. Prices may vary by region and may include applicable tax. The price displayed at checkout is the price you pay.

A lifetime licence grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use glimpses for as long as the service remains available. It does not transfer ownership of glimpses or any related intellectual property to you.

7. Refunds

We offer a thirty (30) day refund window from the date of your lifetime purchase. To request a refund, open glimpses, go to Settings, and choose Refund purchase. The refund is processed back to your original payment method through Stripe. You do not need to email us, and we do not ask for a reason.

If the in-app refund control is not available for any reason, write to support@getglimpses.com within the thirty-day window and we will process it manually.

Where consumer protection law in your country provides a longer cooling-off period, that period applies instead of our thirty days.

8. Your content

Everything you write, photograph, or save in glimpses belongs to you. We do not claim ownership of your journal, we do not use it to train any model, and we do not share it with third parties. Because your content sits inside your own Dropbox, the only licence you grant is to your own device. The licence Dropbox needs from you to store and sync your files is governed by Dropbox's own terms.

9. Acceptable use

glimpses is a personal journalling tool. You agree not to use it to:

  • Store or share content that is unlawful under the law of your country.
  • Infringe the rights of others, including copyright, privacy, and publicity rights.
  • Probe, scan, or attempt to disrupt the integrity or performance of the service.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or otherwise attempt to extract the source code of the native or desktop apps, except to the extent permitted by mandatory law.

10. Third-party services

glimpses relies on a small number of third-party services to function:

  • Dropbox: stores and syncs your journal.
  • Stripe: processes your lifetime purchase.
  • Cloudflare Pages: serves the web app.
  • OpenStreetMap tile providers, via MapLibre: render maps for the location view, without tracking.

Your use of these services is subject to their own terms. We are not responsible for outages, errors, or actions taken by these providers, but we will work in good faith to resolve issues that affect you.

11. Changes to the service

We add, remove, and improve features over time. We will not remove a feature you paid for in a way that materially reduces the value of your lifetime licence without offering you a reasonable alternative or a refund. If we ever discontinue glimpses, we will give you sufficient notice and a way to export your data so you do not lose access to anything in your own Dropbox.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

glimpses is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any statutory rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

13. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or related to glimpses is limited to the amount you paid for your lifetime licence in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or business opportunities.

Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the smallest amount permitted by law.

14. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Anees harmless from any claim, demand, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these terms or your misuse of the service.

15. Termination

You can stop using glimpses at any time by revoking its access to your Dropbox. We can suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these terms, including by using the service for the prohibited purposes listed above. If we terminate your access for breach, no refund will be due.

16. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of [Governing law jurisdiction], without regard to its conflict of laws principles. The courts of [Governing law jurisdiction] have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or related to these terms, subject to your mandatory consumer rights, which give you the right to bring proceedings in the courts of your home country.

Before filing a claim, please contact us at support@getglimpses.com. We will try to resolve your concern directly.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will update the "Last updated" date and give reasonable notice on the website. Continued use of glimpses after that notice means you accept the updated terms. If you do not accept them, you may stop using glimpses and request a refund if you are still within the refund window.
